The International Feng Shui Guild is the premier professional organization dedicated to Feng Shui.  The International Feng Shui Guild unites professional practitioners and educators. “Is Feng Shui a religious practice? Will it interfere with my religious beliefs?”

Classical Feng Shui is not a religion. It is a design concept for landscapes and interior spaces that originated in ancient China. It is based on the Taoist philosophy that everything in the universe is connected to each other. When a trained practitioner uses Feng Shui design, improvements can occur in many areas including health, happiness, career, romance, family and abundance. Contemporary Western Feng Shui is very adaptable, and very personal. Feng Shui rituals can include any religious practice or prayer that you would like. No prayers are required.

“What principal is Feng Shui based on and is it only applicable to houses?”

Feng Shui can be applied to analyze the energy (Chi) of a desk, room, apartment, home, building, neighborhood, city, state, country or continent. It is based upon a set of theories and complex calculations derived from the I Ching (The Book of Changes). It is an intuitive art that requires in-depth comprehension and application of the theories of Yin and Yang, along with the balancing of the Five Elements-Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood.

“In what way is EcoChiSM different from Feng Shui?”

EcoChi is a modern, integrated approach that combines Feng Shui, Green/Sustainable concepts and Environmental Psychology. The focus of this holistic system is how people feel in their spaces and using design to harness harmony, health, prosperity and environmental integrity.

“I’m moving into a new office in two months. Would a Feng Shui consultation be helpful before I move in? How do you do this if there is no furniture to move?”

The best time for a Feng Shui consultation is before you move into a space! First we make an on-site visit. We document all necessary information about work flow, executives, management, offices and public spaces: parking lot, lobby, conference rooms, bathrooms, lunch/break area. What kind of a business is it? What is the corporate culture like and what are the goals? All of this is taken into consideration when we go back to our office and we develop client-specific mapping, charting and floor plans. Then we revisit the site with our recommendations. When the furniture is delivered, it goes in the right spot, the first time. The only thing better than Feng Shui before you move in, is to bring us along when you choose the property or site for your new office!

“I just leased a space for my new restaurant and got a very good deal. I have heard that every restaurant that has had this location went bankrupt within a year. I know that I will have the best food in town but I am afraid that this is an unlucky space. Is there anything I can do to change the luck of the space and make it welcoming to customers?”

In Feng Shui, we call this the “Predecessor Law,” which is the energetic residue left in a space by the previous occupant. I would recommend a space clearing to create a good flow of clear, vibrant energy in the new space. I would follow that with a 5 Element Space Blessing, bringing in the energy of nature and the intentions for the use of the space and the new business. Since water represents wealth and abundance, check all plumbing to be sure that there are no leaks. A property with a history of unsuccessful businesses would greatly benefit from a professional Feng Shui consultation to address customer experience, employee satisfaction and executive support.

“What qualities do you look for in a Green home?”

Energy efficiency, improved indoor air quality, conservation of water, pollution reduction and economizing natural resources are all addressed when a building goes Green. When building a new Green home, the outdoor and indoor environments are protected during its design, construction, and operation. A smaller house is a Greener house and ensures that resource depletion is kept to a minimum. Less is more when going Green!
